About Sara

Sara is a 15 year-old teenager who attends Learning Unlimited School. She is an only child and lives with her Dad, Mom and her Maltese, Marshallow in Pointe Blanche, St. Maarten. Sara is a regular teenage girl with a passion for the environment. Her biggest dream is to see a complete plastic ban on St Maarten. Single use plastics are already banned in many other Caribbean nations. St. Maarten has no widespread waste separation and management and no recycling. There are ongoing environmental and sustainability issues. Through her collaboration with the Green Initiatives, a single use plastic ban is very close and the law is with the Parliament of St Maarten to be voted on. Sara has been reaching out to the St Maarten community through expos, fairs and public events. Her goal is to bring awareness to alternatives to these destructive single use plastics. She speaks about the environmental damage done by plastics, as well as the different materials that can be used to make products that are as durable and functional as plastic but with less damage to the environment. Her dream of a complete plastic ban on St Maarten may be still far away but her journey has started and she is on her way…
